New Municipal Code OrdinancesEffective June 11, 2008
Chadron Area Boards and CommissionsAirport Zoning BoardThere are a total of five (5) members on the Airport Zoning Board. Two (2) members are appointed by the City Council and two (2) members are appointed by the Dawes County Commissioners. These terms are for four (4) years and expire on December 31. One (1) member is appointed by the Board members and serves for one (1) year, which term expires December 31. State Statute 3-304. Business Improvement DistrictThe BID Board consists of six (6) or more persons who are property owners, residents, business operators, or users of space from within the boundaries of the Business Improvement District boundaries. The terms of the board members are for three (3) years and expire June 30. Resolution No. 1984-39. Citizen Advisory Review Committee - Economic Development PlanCommittee description will be available in the future. City CouncilMembers of the City Council are elected to serve by the residents of the City of Chadron. These positions are non-partisan. The City Council reorganizes at the first meeting in December of each election year. At that meeting, the President, ex-officio and Vice President, are voted on by written ballot. Civil Service CommissionThe Civil Service Commission consists of three (3) members. The State Statutes were amended to grant the City Manager the authority to make appointments to this Commission, rather than the City Council. The terms are for six (6) years and expire December 31. Community Development Advisory CommitteeCommittee description will be available in the future. Health BoardThe Health Board consists of five (5) members. The members are as follows: the Mayor, who serves as Chairman; a physician, who shall be the Medical Advisor; the Chief of Police, who shall be the secretary and Health Inspector; the City Manager; and one (1) other person who shall be appointed by the Mayor. Ordinance No. 1000, Section 8-101. All terms are undefined. Housing AuthorityThe Housing Authority consists of five (5) members, and all members are appointed by the Council. The terms are for five (5) years and expire May 20. State Statute 19-1004. Library BoardThe Library Board consists of five (5) members, who shall be appointed by a majority vote of the members of the City Council from the citizens at large, of which Board the Mayor nor any members of the City Council shall be a member. The terms are for four (4) years and expire June 30. State Statute 51-202 and Ordinance No. 1000, Section 9-103. Police Retirement CommitteeThis committee consists of six (6) members. Two (2) members are designated from the members of the City Council. Four (4) members are appointed by the City Council, upon the recommendation of the Police Department. The terms are for four (4) year terms and expire December 31. State Statute No. 16-1015 and Ordinance No. 1000 Sections 5-1002 and 5-1003. Planning CommissionThe Planning Commission consists of nine (9) members, who shall represent insofar as is possible different professions or occupations in said City, and shall reside within the zoning jurisdiction of the City. The members shall be appointed by the Mayor, by and with the approval of a three-fourths vote of the City Council. The terms are for three (3) years and expire December 31. Ordinance No. 1000, Section 4-102. Traffic Safety CommitteeThe Chadron Citizen Advisory Traffic Safety Committee consists of seven (7) members. The terms are for three (3) years and the terms expire June 30. The members are appointed by the City Council. The Committee was created with the specific purpose of studying traffic related issues in the City and to advise the City Manager. The Committee is to be composed of one member of the Chadron Police Department, one representative from the two-mile zone, and five other members. Resolution No. 1995-62, May 15, 1995. Tree BoardThe Tree Board consists of five (5) members. The terms are for three (3) years and the terms expire February 19. The members are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. Ordinance No. 1000 Section 13-401. Zoning Board of AdjustmentThe Zoning Board of Adjustment consists of five (5) regular members, plus one (1) additional member designated as an alternate who shall attend and serve only when one of the regular members is unable to attend for any reason. One of the members shall be appointed from the membership of the Planning Commission. Each member serves a three (3) year term and the terms expire December 31. State Statute 19-908. |
